Problems/Comments

Numerous 55-gallon drums with staining of ground around them. Unknown type of muds dumped to ground along with asphalt tar like substances on ground also. Dead bird was found in tar. Total extent of contamination, types of contaminants, and impact to human health unknown. Owner of Alaska Roadbuilders is Ronald L. Davis.

4/20/1992 Update or Other Action On May 20, 1992 the department approved the Phase I sampling plan written by Ron Rozak, P.E. for the area in the north corner of the property where a bunch of leaking barrels, batteries, heaters with asbestos, and miscellaneous equipment are stored. Twidwell contacted Ron to check on the status of the site on December 10, 1992. Ron said that since the May 20th reply, he had not been contacted by Alaska Roadbuilders to do any work. Former Staff

6/29/1997 Update or Other Action Letter report to Bob Krogseng from Ron Rozak regarding past site activities. According tot he letter, all of the drums had been emptied appropriately, crushed, and disposed of at the landfill. The spilled CSS-1 was apparently buried in the reclaimation pit in 1994 along with other plant wste material. Stained soils were incorporated into asphalt or made into D1 and placed under pavement. The batteries were turned in for disposal. According to the letter, Ron Rozak intended to conduct additional assessment work and submit a report. Don Fritz

Medatata include No Topo Basemap, TopoZone Pro Street Map, Black and White Aerial Photo, on a Medium Size Map, View Scale 1:10,000 Coordinate Datum NAD83. 7/7/2006 Update or Other Action Contaminated sites staff sent a letter to Alaska Roadbuilders regarding a spill near Soldotna that was discovered in 1991. The file depicts that assessment and cleanup activities stopped in 1997. Alaska Roadbuilders was requested to provide any correspondence, work plans or reports related to assessment and or remediation that has occurred since 1997. (Fritz) Don Fritz
6/18/2007 Meeting or Teleconference Held Contaminated sites staff met with Ron Rozak (Rozak Engineering) regarding the Alaska Roadbuilders site in Ridgeway. Mr. Rozak has been hired by the responsible party to address comments and concerns identified in the department's July 7, 2006 letter. According to Mr. Rozak, the responsible party desires to obtain site closure for this release. Don Fritz
