Problems/Comments

On 2/20/91 a diesel spill resulting from a ruptured line in an above ground tank was reported to ADEC. Release may have been occurring since the 1970s according to a complaint and contamination is evident according to trooper investigation. Extent of contamination and threat to human health unknown at this time. Allegations of diesel contamination by new owner who purchased property in 7/90. D. Basketfield has advised excavation of the contaminated soil. (rpltr6) Legal description is Tract A of Drashner-Weiler Subdivision, plat 75-2, Nenana Recording District.

5/15/2000 Update or Other Action Hard file and database review conducted by Silfven. May 2, 1991 letter from Deborah Alberg of ADEC in Fairbanks describes 1990 spill of 250 gallons from 55 gallon drums which exists as either an above-ground tank with underground line or as a UST. A complaint in the file refers to previous spill of approximately 500 gallons in 1975. Samples from 12/91 show primarily #1 and some #2 fuel oil in soil near tank and tunnel. A lake with wildlife is 30 feet away. Insufficient data to generate a AHRM score. S&W

11/15/2013 Update or Other Action Received response to PRP letters providing updates regarding the site. No cleanup activities or excavation of contaminated materials has taken place on the property. 6/5/2014 Update or Other Action Received written response from property owner. Owner states home is no longer used and is condemned due to damage from 2002 earthquake. Property owner also informed DEC that the DW well on the property is no longer used and water is brought in from a different location. The former AST at the residence was drained and fuel oil lines to the tank and running through the tunnels were decommissioned and removed. Additionally, the owner provided information stating the underground tunnels were safety concerns, as they were collapsing, and were backfilled with gravel. LAG; 6/5/14. Laurel Gale
4/9/2019 Update or Other Action DEC sent correspondence requesting site visit for summer 2019 to observe current site conditions. Megan Roberts
8/22/2019 Site Visit ADEC staff met the RP and family member at the site. The homestead includes a four stall bus garage, generator building (current occupied by family member). RP indicated that the drinking water well is not used, underground buildings, tunnel and greenhouse are in various states of collapse and not safe to occupy. No stressed vegetation was observed around the abandoned heating oil tank, in the condemned underground home or at the opening of the tunnel in the home. Shawn Tisdell
