Problems/Comments

A real estate appraisal report of Barow Stuaqpak Portion of Block 19 included 10 borings located on Lot 1, north of the AC Store. Two northernmost tanks were previously situated at this location as part of a tank farm from between 1955 and 1975. Concentrations ranged between 1,400 and 100,000 ppm as diesel range organics, with gasoline and benzene constituents as well. All impacts were on Lot 1 with nothing identified on Lot 2. ADEC was informed on 7/26/91 that diesel fuel contamination had been discovered in the course of building activities at the site. Suspected source is old fuel storage tank farm that was owned or managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Highest concentrations of diesel are being found at 15 feet below grade. Extent of contamination and human health threat unknown. Located next to IHS Hospital and 1/4 mile from the sound. ADEC has requested a complete site assessment.
