Problems/Comments
Historical discharges from tank farm to gravel pad. Tank farm consisted of 10 ASTs totaling 92,900 gallons capacity. Later records indicate as many as 20 tanks were located at this location. The tanks were moved to a different location in 1998 during construction of a school addition. Site is 600-800' west of the Selawik River. GW reportedly not used in the village. All DW is taken from the Selawik River upstream of the community. No GW encountered to 315' during site investigations. Maximim active zone thickness ~30". Infiltration of SW is confined to the active layer during summer months.

| 5/12/2011 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | DEC reviewed a draft Property Assessment and Cleanup Plan for Selawik area-wide. The Former School Tank Farm was included as one of the potential sites to be investigated. The former tank farm was used to store fuel for heating the former school, and was decommissioned for the 1996-1997 construction of the new Selawik School. Visual reconnaissance and sampling were performed on October 2, 2010. Little surficial evidence remains of the Former School Tank Farm. The Davis-Ramoth School partially overlaps the northern boundary of the former tank farm. The new school is built on steel pilings. Four test pits were dug with a hand shovel to depths ranging from 1.2 to 2.2 feet. One test pit, SF1, was extended to 3.5 feet bgs, through water, using a hand auger. The test pits were advanced along the southern edge of the Davis-Ramoth School, and at least three locations were within the estimated containment area of the former tank farm. Water was encountered in each test pit at depths ranging 0.6 to 1.9 feet bgs. Clear polyethylene sheeting was encountered at approx. 2 feet bgs. Five analytical samples were collected from the test pits and analyzed for DRO and BTEX. One sample was also tested for PAHs. DRO was detected in each sample and ranged up to 6,450 mg/kg.
