Problems/Comments

This Hazard ID (1935) refers to an underground injection well (UIW) at Bldg 1301. Discharge from the UIW was through a drain line exiting on the north side of Bldg 1301. The UIW currently is inactive. 1996 groundwater sampling yielded 49 ug/L benzene at Monitoring Well #2. PAHs were sampled for but the MDLs were above cleanup standards. There is additional contamination associated with two other sites at this building. ADEC file number 107.26.015/Hazard ID 24370: regulated 118-gallon leaded gasoline underground storage tank, cleanup complete. ADEC file number 107.38.099/Hazard ID 2920: aboveground storage tank (AST) on the south side of Bldg 1301, active. Note that the Air Force addresses the AST and UIW as a single site - SO075.

Action Information

Action Date Action Description DEC Staff
1/14/1993 Site Ranked Using the AHRM Initial ranking. Former Staff
1/15/1993 Update or Other Action Sent letter to Lieutenant Colonel James C. Murray giving the information we have for 107.38.081 and 107.26.014-.017 and explaining the information that ADEC would require to give these sites no further action status. All of these sites represent 1990 tank closings for which only vague sampling information is available in most instances. Kalu Kalu
2/4/1993 Meeting or Teleconference Held Brent Koenen, Cindy Horn, John Hellen of EAFB met with Gibler and Kalu to discuss 1990s tank closings. Samples were collected from under the full end and center of the tanks. Maps showing building and tank locations will be provided. Matrix calculations will be completed for the sites. Kalu Kalu
2/23/1993 Update or Other Action Sent PRP (potential responsible party)-CS database Notification Letter to RP requesting update and additional environmental information concerning this site. Department of the Air Force responded with requested information on 3-17-93. Jeff Peterson
3/22/1993 Update or Other Action BTEX below detection limits. TPH = 121 and 59. Closure prevented by ambiguous lead results: EP toxic extract gives 22 ppm, TCLP gives 128.5 ppm, total dissolution (EPA Method 3050) indicates 41 ppm. These results are obviously inconsistent. Determination of extent and degree of contamination required of responsible party. Former Staff
12/29/1993 Site Added to Database Lead and TPH. Former Staff
8/4/2005 Update or Other Action Reviewed file. There is an underground injection well at this site, a concrete-lined floor sump. The UIW is inactive and discharge was through a drain line exiting on the north side of the building. During a 1996 UIW investigation, benzene was detected in a ground-water monitoring well immediately downgradient of the building and UIW. Emily Youcha
8/9/2005 Update or Other Action Bldg 1301 remains open due to the underground injection well and aboveground storage tank at this site. No further action is required for the LUST at this site and thus the LUST will be closed in the LUST database. Emily Youcha
