Contaminated soil containing old, weathered crude was discovered during the replacement of fire-water valve L-11. Soil was excavated to the maximum extent practical (16 feet BGS), but structural integrity concerns prevented further excavation. 100 cubic yards of PCS were removed. No record of original spill exists. ADEC OKed backfilling the excavation on 9/1/1993 due to safety concerns. Site is not closed, but staff don't anticipate any further action in the near future. Cross reference with file number 1200.02.001. No samples were taken so residual range organics (RRO) was given as a COC.
