12/19/2006 Update or Other Action Spoke with Lands Manager for Eyak Corp. Dan McDaniel. Mr. McDaniel said that the hydrocarbon contaminated soils formerly stockpiled at the site were landspread for one season then planted with grass. No stockpile samples were collected prior to landspreading. Excavation confirmation samples collected in 1996 showed DRO remaining up to 1,135 mg/kg at the maintenance shop floor and lead at 610 mg/kg in the barrel storage area. Groundwater was not evaluated. Bill O'Connell
6/19/2007 Update or Other Action Site visit conducted with Mr. Dan McDaniel of Eyak Corp. The site is entirely overgrown with no evidence of debris or contamination at the site. Eyak currently has no plans to develop the site and there are no drinking water wells in the vicinity. Bill O'Connell
7/25/2007 Conditional Closure Approved The Department of Environmental Conservation, Contaminated Sites Program (ADEC) reviewed the environmental records associated with the former Cabin Lake Shop site. This site had been contaminated by the release of a hazardous substance; however, based on the information provided to date, ADEC has determined that no further remedial action is required, and that the former Cabin Lake Shop site can be closed subject to the conditions outlined below. The hazardous substance contamination has been adequately addressed and does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Bill O'Connell
7/25/2007 Institutional Control Record Established The Conditional Closure decision is subject to the following conditions: 1. A Notice of Environmental Contamination will be recorded on the ADEC database to document that there is residual contamination remaining on site above the most stringent ADEC cleanup levels; 2. Any proposal to transport soil off site requires ADEC approval in accordance with 18 AAC 75.325(i). 3. Eyak Corporation must contact ADEC in the event this property is proposed for development. Bill O'Connell
4/21/2008 Exposure Tracking Model Ranking A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed. Bill O'Connell
6/11/2012 Institutional Control Compliance Review IC review conducted and staff name changed from Bill O’Connell to IC Unit. Evonne Reese
1/3/2013 Institutional Control Record Removed The conditions at this site meet the 2009 closure policy, therefore ICs can be removed. The default requirement of no offsite transport of soil or groundwater will still apply. In accordance with 18 AAC 75.380(d)(2), ADEC may require additional site assessment, monitoring, remediation, and/or other necessary actions at this facility should new information become available that indicates contamination at this site may pose a threat to human health or the environment. Eyak Corporation must contact DEC in the event this property is proposed for development. Evonne Reese
5/1/2015 Institutional Control Update Contacted by a representative from the Eyak Corporation (landowner) in order to report that this property may be leased out in the near future for a vacation cabin. The cabin will not be used for full-time occupancy. I checked with Bill O’Connell, the former project manager, and he felt that the prior contamination should not be an issue for this use. I passed this information onto the contact but stated that I will reapply the ICs to the site in order to establish a system of tracking and follow up. I also explained that this does not preclude ADEC from requiring additional assessment and/or cleanup if future property contamination is identified. The site will be briefly be reopened (Active status) in order to reapply the ICs. Evonne Reese
5/1/2015 Site Reopened In order to reapply ICs. Evonne Reese
5/1/2015 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued In order to reapply ICs. Set the internal reminder system to do the first follow up in six months time. Evonne Reese
5/1/2015 Institutional Control Record Established Institutional Controls established and entered into the database. IC Unit
12/30/2016 Institutional Control Compliance Review IC compliance review conducted. Closure/IC Details updated. An IC reminder letter requesting information on the current land use, proposed new vacation cabin, and any current or future occupants was issued to the landowner on this date. Kristin Thompson
1/27/2017 Institutional Control Update In response to the IC reminder letter, Eyak Corporation informed the ADEC that this property has been granted as a 100 year lease to a shareholder for a recreation camping site, and is being used part-time as a recreational facility. There is a cabin on skids, for easy transport, a steam bath cabin, and a small shop. No water or soil is ever anticipated to be removed from the site. No other changes in land use have occurred since the 2007 conditional closure was issued. Reminder system set to follow-up every three years. Kristin Thompson
6/3/2019 Institutional Control Update An Institutional Controls reminder letter e-mailed to the responsible party on this date. Mossy Mead
