Problems/Comments

Gasoline tank removed in 1992. Soil and groundwater contamination were found. Excavation meets site cleanup levels and excavated soil treated on site in 1993. Three groundwater monitoring wells were installed in June 1996 to further evaluate the extent of contamination. Historic groundwater monitoring from these wells indicate decreasing levels of contamination from earlier events. Sample results from the most recent monitoring event on July 9, 1998, indicate contamination above ADEC cleanup levels in two wells: 0.007 mg/L benzene in MW-1 and 1.97mg/L diesel range organics (DRO) in MW-3. The Remedial Investigation Report prepared by the ARRC reported that contamination above ADEC cleanup levels was present in only MW-2 as follows: 0.0074 mg/L trichloroethylene (TCE) and 0.052 mg/L tetrachloroethylene (PCE). Furthermore, a September 2005 groundwater sampling event down gradient from site, next to Ship Creek, produced results below ADEC cleanup levels. The information provided to date indicates that groundwater contamination has decreased since the UST removal in 1992. 1998 groundwater sampling events indicated benzene, DRO, PCE, and TCE contamination has decreased since previous years. Any remaining contamination on site appears to be just above ADEC’s most stringent cleanup levels. Furthermore, contamination is not migrating toward Ship Creek. No further action was granted January 8, 2008 subject to institutional controls. This site is located at lease property LP-134

1/17/2008 Update or Other Action EPA ordered, "Remedial Investigation Report" submitted by ARRC dated 6/21/2007 reported low levels of contamination. Contamination above ADEC levels was present in well MW2 at 0.0074 mg/L TCE and 0.052 mg/L PCE. A september 2005 groundwater sampling event downgradient from site, next to Ship Creek produced results below ADEC cleanuplevels, indicated that contaminants are not migrating toward Ship Creek. 1/17/2008 Conditional Closure Approved The DEC has completed review ot the Remedial Investigation Report prepared by ARRC dated 6/21/07. Currently contamination containing benzene, DRO, PCE, and TCE remain on site.Based on the information provided in this report and available environmental records, ADEC has determined that the soil contamination remaining on site exceeds the most stringent DEC soil cleanup levels, but does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health ot the environment and the site can be closed. Grant Lidren
1/17/2008 Institutional Control Record Established ADEC has determined that no further remedial action will be required at this site subject to the following conditions: A notice of contamination will be recorded on the ADEC database, any proposal to transport soil requires DEC approval in accordance with 18 AAC 78.274 (b), and groundwater wells may not be installed on site without approval from ADEC.
