Problems/Comments

In 1991 ADEC was informed that an inactive 2,000-gallon diesel fuel UST was located near Building 1001, the old White Alice Building at the Murphy Dome AFS. In 1993 the UST was removed and approximately 400 cubic yards of diesel soil contamination left in place. DRO was detected up to 3,400 mg/kg. This tank was formerly tracked in the Contaminated Sites Database under Reckey 199131X0101.

2/20/2013 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued Closure letter sent with Corrective Action Complete Determination under 18 AAC 78 Storage Tank Regulations and Cleanup Complete under 18 AAC 75 Article Three. The 2,000 gallon underground storage tank (UST) and associated piped were removed in 1993. Sampling of the excavation detected DRO at a maximum concentration of 3,437 mg/kg, and GRO at a maximum concentration of 167 mg/kg. Additional investigation was performed during a remedial investigation in 2004. Soil borings downgradient of the tank site showed no evidence of off-site migration of contaminants. The migration to groundwater pathway is not complete at this site; therefore the Method 2, Table B2 soil ingestion and soil inhalation cleanups apply. Maximum concentrations detected at the site are below the Method 2 cleanup levels for soil inhalation and soil ingestion. There is not significant risk to human health or the environment, and this site meets the criteria for closure. Tamar Stephens
2/20/2013 Exposure Tracking Model Ranking A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 77943 UST. Tamar Stephens
