Action Information

Action Date Action Description DEC Staff
12/18/1992 Update or Other Action MEET; Thomas met with station owner to discuss previous actions to mitigate 1/18 release. Would send NFA letter for soils do financial reimbursement was possible, but could not offer CLOS on site itself until investigation complete. Former Staff
12/22/1992 Leaking Underground Storage Tank Release Confirmed - Petroleum LUST Site created in CSP for source area ID 76949 ADD; Former Staff
12/22/1992 Site Added to Database Former Staff
12/23/1992 Leaking Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Initiated - Petroleum LCAU; Contaminated soils discovered and removed during piping repair. Soils were thermally incinerated. : LCAU date changed DB conversion Former Staff
12/23/1992 Update or Other Action CORR; Thomas sent letter verifying NFA for soils, but not for site until a Site Assessment completed and approved by ADEC. Former Staff
6/10/1994 Leaking Underground Storage Tank Corrective Action Underway LCAR; Thomas approved FAP corrective action plan to remove USTs next year and treat up to 100 cubic yards of contaminated soils. Prefered treatment technology will be decided later. Former Staff
8/22/1994 Update or Other Action UPD; DUPEE: Thoroughly reviewed and updated file to determine status of site. Informed case officers of any outstanding actions or possible follow up that needs to be completed. Emailed case officers the results of my review. Former Staff
1/19/1995 Update or Other Action UPD; SITE SUMMARY: A leak was discovered in 1992 and was susequently repaired. Some contaminated soil removed and treated but extent of impact remains unknown. DEC should require assessment in conjuction with tank closure/upgrade (possibly slated for 1995). Former Staff
11/20/1997 Update or Other Action ADEC sends Notification of Intent to Cost Recover Letter to Current Owner: VERN STONER Former Staff
2/25/2000 Update or Other Action Corrective Action and Summary Report submitted. An air injection(AI)/vapor extraction (VE) system was installed with 4 AI wells and three VE wells. An additional AI and 2 VE wells were installed for possible future use. 12 cubic yards of contaminated soil were removed from the north side of the site during trenching. Janice Wiegers
1/3/2002 Release Investigation Release Investigation Report submitted. Three wells (MW6, MW7, and MW8) were installed off-site. In June, the maximum benzene concentration in off-site wells was 0.9 ppb at MW-6. Benzene was not detected in off-site wells in October. Janice Wiegers
1/3/2002 Update or Other Action Groundwater sampling results submitted with Release Investigation. Benzene was not detected in June, July, or October sampling events in on-site wells. Janice Wiegers
7/19/2002 Update or Other Action Groundwater Sampling Report submitted. The remediation system was shut off in November 2001 for a rebound evaluation. Benzene increased to a high of 9.7 ppb (MW1) in February, but decreased to 1.1 ppb in April. Benzene was not detected in any other wells after system shut-down. Janice Wiegers
1/13/2003 Update or Other Action Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Assessment and Groundwater Samping report submitted. Groundwater samples were tested for VOCs in October to evaluate site closure potential. TCE was present in MW7 above cleanup levels (7.1 ppb). TCE and PCE were present in a number of wells below cleanup levels. Three new wellpoints were installed in December to determine if VOCs were associated with the former waste oil tank. TCE, PCE, 1,1,1-TCA were detected below cleanup levels except in MW7 (9.3 ppb TCE). TCE was detected in an upgradient wellpoint - it is suspected solvent is associated with the Gafney Road plume. Janice Wiegers
3/20/2003 Update or Other Action Grant request approved to turn system back on, evaluate system effectiveness, and install soil borings for closure assessment. Graph of system emissions showed that greater than 200 ppm was present in the exhaust when system was shutdown in November. Hypothesized that road construction in the area may have affected removal rates. Janice Wiegers
6/12/2003 Update or Other Action Remediation system effectiveness report submitted. System restarted in April and evaluated for 6 weeks - sampling ports were installed on each extraction line. Low PID in vapor extraction line except for one week in early May that corresponds to the period when the groundwater table probably rose. Highest vapor readings were observed from extraction line south of current tank location. Janice Wiegers
8/29/2003 Update or Other Action S&W reported that MW-8 (located at Bicentennial Park) has been decomissioned. Janice Wiegers
9/22/2003 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Closure request and summary report submitted. Under review while additional groundwater samples collected. Janice Wiegers
11/26/2003 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Groundwater monitoring report submitted. No contaminants were detected above cleanup levels. Janice Wiegers
3/11/2004 Update or Other Action Groundwater monitoring report submitted. Benzene and GRO in MW-1 slightly elevated (0.0124 and 1.4 mg/L, respectively). A trend of slighlty elevated concentrations in the winter has been observed at this well. Janice Wiegers
3/11/2004 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Groundwater monitoring report submitted for February sampling event. Benzene and GRO slightly exceeded cleanup levels in MW-1 (12.4 ppb and 1.4 ppm, respectively). Janice Wiegers
5/27/2004 Update or Other Action Decommissioning report submitted. Monitoring wells, air injection wells, and vapor extraction wells were grouted and sealed. The remediation shed was left in place. MW-7 was left open and responsibility has been transferred to the ADEC for use in the Gaffney Road project. Janice Wiegers
7/23/2004 Site Closure Approved ADEC sends No Further Action letter. Limited gasoline or diesel contamination may remain in the vicinity of the existing tank and dispenser islands. Solvents associated with the Gaffney Road Plume (File 102.38.084) have also been observed on this site. ADEC should be notified if additional contaminated soil or groundwater is encountered. Janice Wiegers
6/26/2006 Update or Other Action Received notice from Travis-Peterson that 52 tons of soil was excavated and thermally-remediated at OIT. This soil is associated with drums that were found at another location (Det-460) which is being handled by PERP. Janice Wiegers
9/25/2023 Update or Other Action CS staff received call from the PPR (spill response) staff about a recently report gasoline spill. Discussed areas of former contamination. Janice Wiegers
