Problems/Comments

The site includes several old buildings which were built in the 1950s and an old tank farm that contains five above ground storage tanks. The extent of contamination is unknown. DEC received a Property Assessment and Cleanup Plan for the Eek Old BIA School property in 2011. During September 13 through 16, 2010, SLR conducted a site visit of the Eek Old BIA School property. SLR observed five 10,000-gallon ASTs in the tank farm. Three of the five ASTs were listing toward the south. Water present at the Site exhibited hydrocarbon sheen in some areas and strong hydrocarbon odors were noted in several locations of recently disturbed soil. Surface staining was also noted in multiple locations. Areas of stressed vegetation were noted within and around the containment area, AST fill valve, former day tank locations, and areas where piping previously entered buildings. SLR advanced test holes (1 to 2 feet bgs) in the immediate vicinity of the tank farm, other onsite ASTs, pipelines, and other features that may have resulted in impact to the property. Eighty-eight field screening samples and eight discrete samples and two duplicates were collected from the Eek Old BIA School Property and analyzed for GRO, DRO, BTEX, and PAHs. DRO was the only analyte detected at concentrations above DEC Method Two soil cleanup levels at a maximum concentration of 46,600 mg/kg. FKA 2412.57.001.
