Problems/Comments

On 7/27/2011 a 2,500-gallon underground heating oil tank was removed from the portable music building at Weller Elementary School. During initial excavation and assessment activities, petroleum-contaminated soil was noted due to releases from the fill and vent pipes of the tank.

5/1/2012 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other DEC received and reviewed Weller Elementary School Unregulated 2,500-Gallon Diesel Buried Heating Oil Tank Site Assessment/Removal Report dated April 2012, prepared by ICA. Fieldwork for the 2,500-gallon HOT removal was completed on July 27 and July 28, 2011. The tank and removed piping were disposed of at GNI for future recycling. Approximately 13 cy of contaminated soil was hauled offsite for thermally remediation. Approximately 20 cy of clean (below cleanup level or non-detect) soil was used to backfill. Soil sampled at the limit of the excavation was non-detect for DRO and BTEX, except near the vent stickup below building excavations (4,490 mg/kg DRO and below cleanup level for BTEX). Approximately 2-5 cy of contaminated soil remains on site. (MBarnes) Willett Boger
