Problems/Comments

In July, 2010 the former Fairbanks North Star Borough Steese Volunteer Fire Station #1 was demolished. During the demolition project, diesel range organics (DRO) and tetrachloroethene (PCE) were identified above DEC cleanup levels in subsurface soil and in the groundwater smear zone. The sump, associated piping, and contaminated soil were removed in August 2010 and closure as a Class V injection well (UIC #AK090L5-17-13546) was requested from EPA’s Underground Injection Control Program.
