Problems/Comments
About 150 gallon spill of fuel oil occurred near Building 600 on December 14, 1996. Contaminated soil excavation started in early fall, 1997. The excavation was stopped as it ran into a hot spot that was unrelated to the initial spill. Field screening and laboratory analysis of samples indicated localization of contamination. The excavation resumed on fall of 1998 and discovered deeper levels of contamination possibly unrelated to the initial spill. Soil excavation at the spill location was completed and confirmation results are below applicable cleanup levels. Approximately 270 cubic yards were transported to the Old Hospital site across the Airport Road (Chief Eddy Hoffman Highway) for treatment by landfarming. For information on the Old Hospital site, see file number 2407.38.025/hazard ID 1550. Supporting correspondence and a site map are attached to the database.
