Problems/Comments

The Swetman mill is located in the Hope Mining District and is associated with a gold lode mine which operated from the early 1900s to the 1940s. This site is also referred to as the Hirshey mine. A stamp mill with mercury amalgamation was used as well as a cyanide plant with 10 cyanide leaching tanks as part of the process to liberate the gold from the ore. The site is located on the Chugach National Forest and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This site is used recreationally for hiking, picnicking, camping, mine visits, and hunting.
