Problems/Comments
Information on this spill consists of a PHS report that was faxed to WDO on May 5, 1993, from Denton Woodford, PHS. At the time of the spill, PHS reported the spill to several agencies including DEC, and hired Crowley Maritime to clean up the spill. The quantity of fuel recovered and what was done with it were not reported. The PHS report states that the fuel spread over a large area and could only be recovered using sorbents, which were burned in a pit with the department's approval. The tank farm is variously referred to in the PHS report as Bethel Fuel Sales, the Bethel tank farm and the Chevron tank farm. The spill history is being reviewed because Oly Olsen of Bethel Fuel Sales has contacted several department personnel recently. Mr. Olsen wants the department to apply pressure to PHS to clean up the site as he plans to upgrade the facility. Although PHS has not taken responsibility for the site, Mr. Woodford plans to visit the site on May 11th while in Bethel on other business. Last staff assigned was Dronenburg.
