Problems/Comments

A diesel/heating fuel above-ground storage tank (AST) located on the south side of Bldg 1301 was removed in 1997. A single soil sample taken from beneath the AST yielded a benzene concentration of 1.337 mg/kg. 2002 soil gas screening at three points (one in close proximity to the location of the former AST, two downgradient of where surface runoff from the former tank location was apparent) yielded non-detect for hydrocarbon vapors. A 2002 letter from ADEC requested soil and possibly groundwater sampling. A 2005 letter requested confirmation soil sampling in the location of the AST and noted that soil gas data cannot be used for site closure. There is additional contamination associated with two other sites at this building. ADEC file number 107.26.015/Hazard ID 24370: regulated 118-gallon leaded gasoline underground storage tank, cleanup complete. ADEC file number 107.38.099/Hazard ID 1935: underground injection well with discharge through a drain line on the N side of the building, active. Note that both the AST and UIW are addressed by the Air Force as a single site - SO075.
