Problems/Comments

Widespread petroleum contamination throughout various areas of the camp from long-term logging related activities. Last staff assigned were Schlichting, Janes, Jaynes and Palmieri. Lat/long information at main camp area updated against topo map on 10/5/04.

12/12/2016 Institutional Control Update Checked with the USFS to see if they have taken over management of this property yet and they have not yet. There is a phased purchase agreement to purchase 24,000 acres of Cube Cove but it has been divided into 13 segments and at this point the USFS has purchased 2 of the segments which are the furthest away from the area of contamination. Check back in 6 months time for an update on land transfers. Evonne Reese

Other Notification provided to future landowners to test groundwater and surface water in the cleanup areas prior to using for drinking water purposes.
Excavation / Soil Movement Restrictions The recorded deed notice identifies the following steps to be followed, if residual contaminated soil above the most stringent cleanup criteria are excavated and/or relocated to another location: (1) Excavated soil or groundwater with residual contamination will not be re-deposited on wetlands or within 100' of surface water; (2) Precautions are to be taken to assure complete containment during the relocation of off-site transport of soil with residual contamination; (3) Any excavated soil with residual contamination is to be re-deposited where they are unlikely to be disturbed by future activity.
Advance approval required to transport soil or groundwater off-site. Standard condition. As a result of the recorded deed notice, ADEC hereby provides approval under 18 AAC 75.325(i) for any future transport of soil and/or groundwater with residual contamination above the most stringent cleanup criteria.
Movement or use of contaminated material (including on site) in a manner that results in a violation of the water quality standards is prohibited (18 AAC 70) Standard condition.
