Problems/Comments

10,000 gallon spill of regular gas fuel line between a fuel storage tank and pump at a joint just north of a boardwalk that passes in front of the store. Site adequately cleaned up to DEC's satisfaction. Closed out per Ron Klein 3/2/90 telephone conversation with MSDO Mike Kreiber. Jim Pierson branch manager for Alaska Commercial Co. in McGrath and Sam J. Salkin is president and chief executive officer of ACC in Anchorage. The elevation is ~100 meters (~328 feet). Airport (McClures) Drive. Last staff assigned were Klein and Krieber.

12/7/1987 Preliminary Assessment Approved Woodward Clyde initial investigation sent by Alaska Commercial. WCC found nearest active well at school 1,200' east of site, most of product penetrated ground with the thickest observed layer of snow saturated with gas at 2". Recommended that subsurface investagation be started as soon as possible. If product recovery feasible it should be implemented immediately and nearest abandoned wells should be sampled/analyzed for volatile constituents. Former Staff
1/6/1988 Cleanup Plan Approved (Old R:Base Action Code = RAPR - Remedial Action Plan Review (CS)). Plan finally approved for remediation of ACC gas spill by ADEC. 1/8/1988 Update or Other Action (Old R:Base Action Code = F - Site Treatment, Soil/H2O). ACC sends in technical report detailing field investigation and recovery well installation. Product recovery system dismantled during installation of waterproof liner then reinstalled in well to continue operation. Former Staff
7/15/1988 Interim Removal Action Approved (Old R:Base Action Code = REM - Removal / Excavation). WCC sent in soil removal/disposal plan for approval by ADEC. ADEC approves 08/01/88 and letter by WCC received 09/28/88 states that 660 cubic yards were removed 9-7 thr 9-10-88. Soils were placed on an impermeable liner to be treated by periodically scarifying them until lab tests show less than 20 ppm total hydrocarbons (EPA 418.1) Former Staff
