Problems/Comments

Overfilling the home heating oil tank has resulted in minor DRO contamination in the soil near the Health Clinic. Total quantity of affected soil is estimated to be about ten cubic yards. The UST will be replaced by an AST at the time of excavation (estimated to be summer of 2004).

3/10/2006 Update or Other Action Review of latest information shows site to be eligible for site closure decision at this small Heating Oil Tank site. Some contamination above approved cleanup level remains at 12' bgs; however, the source is removed and little contamination would migrate further to the 24' GW level. Soil was noted to be organic silty sand and should be below Method Two levels in the next few feet. Mike Jaynes
3/14/2006 Site Closure Approved Site granted closure granted based on the following reasoning: 1. Both the tank and contaminated soil have been moved offsite, reducing any additional source contribution. 2. The former drinking water well at the site is screened at 24 feet bgs, well below the zone of contamination. No contamination was detected in the well and the well has currently been decommissioned. 3. Since the highest surficial contamination was over 30,000 ppm DRO in limited areas and by 12’ down had reached 668 ppm DRO, it would be unlikely the contamination would not be below cleanup levels in the next 12’ of soil profile. 4. The majority of confirmational samples were non-detect or under 100 ppm DRO.
