Problems/Comments

38 gallons of Jet A fuel was spilled during refilling of an Aboveground Storage Tank Absorbent pads and booms were deployed to collect free product from the hardstand surface. Six 85-gallon drums of petroleum impacted soil were removed from the site. Sampling in 2004 found a maximum of 4090 mg/Kg DRO remaining in the impacted area

2/5/2013 Site Characterization Report Approved Draft Site Characterization Report and Cleanup Complete Decision, Alaska Army National Guard, Bethel New AAOF, January 2013 The site characterization indicates that diesel range organics are remaining in a small area in the pad fill sloping to the tundra. The maximum concentration found was 3330 mg/kg at 4 feet below ground surface (bgs). A sample at 11’ bgs at the same location was found to contain and undetectable quantity of DRO. Ten other soil borings were installed around this point and no other significant contamination was identified. Three monitoring wells were installed and sampled downgradient of this location. DRO was not detected in the groundwater above the applicable cleanup level of 1.5 mg/l. The report recommends a cleanup complete determination for this site and ADEC concurs. The monitoring wells on site should be decommissioned in accordance with ADEC guidance. Debra Caillouet
