Problems/Comments

Petroleum contamination discovered near Flow Station 1 during installation of vertical support members for a new "Flow 3 to Skid 50 oil transit line." Preliminary samples indicated presence of BTEX, DRO, GRO, and RRO, with benzene exceeding ADEC cleanup levels.

Boreholes with be advanced using a geoprobe and samples collected every 5 feet and screened in the field with a PID. Based on PID results, up to 3 samples per borehole will be submitted for analyis of DRO, RRO, GRO, and BTEX. A total of 10-15 boreholes is anticipated. Bill O'Connell
3/20/2009 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Received 2007 Flow Station 1 VSM Site Investigation Report. Nine boreholes were advanced in the area of concern to depths ranging from 11 to 21 feet bgs. Based on field screening, soil samples were collected from two boreholes at depths from 8 to 9.5 feet bgs in the immediate area of the initial detections. These samples contained DRO up to 81.3 mg/kg, RRO up to 446 mg/kg, GRO up to 38.2 mg/kg, and benzene up to 4.0 mg/kg. Bill O'Connell

4/3/2009 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Contaminated Sites Program (ADEC) has completed a review of the environmental records associated with BPX Flow Station 1 VSM located near Deadhorse, Alaska in the Prudhoe Bay Unit. Based on the information provided to date, the ADEC has determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining on site do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment, and this site will be closed.
