Problems/Comments

Contaminated soil and groundwater from tank farm operation. Known sludge burial disposal practices. Leaking underground tanks, chemical burn sites and landfill. Comprehensive site assessment needed. Remediation plan submitted and approved with comments for additional measures for landfill site within the POL. ADEC requests more concrete measures in 1/91 memorandum. ADEC requests public hearing and comprehensive site assessment. Significant public interest in Haines community.

3/16/2022 Meeting or Teleconference Held DEC staff met with the US Army to discuss the Installation Action Plans for the Haines Terminal and Sears Creek Station. This was DEC's first meeting with the Army about the Haines Terminal site since 2020. The Army discussed its plans for work at the site for the next several years. DEC will review the Installation Action Plan and provide comments to the Army. Anne Marie Palmieri
4/17/2023 Meeting or Teleconference Held DEC staff met with the US Army and US Army Corps of Engineers to discuss the results of the 2022 sampling event, next steps for additional characterization at the site, and a timeline for a public meeting in Haines. 6/2/2023 CERCLA PA DEC concurred with the conclusions of the March 2023 Preliminary Assessment/Site Inspection. Limited sampling from 2022 showed concentrations of PFAS over the screening levels. Additional investigation is needed in the former administration area. Anne Marie Palmieri
