The Vehicle Emission Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Sticker Program
began on January 1, 2000. The windshield sticker is the Certificate
of Inspection for the I/M Test. The sticker certifies the vehicle has
passed the Alaska I/M test. It is the required proof of compliance for
the Alaska I/M programs.
Windshield stickers are used as a visual indicator of a passing I/M
test. A windshield sticker is required to be displayed on all vehicles
primarily located in the Municipality of Anchorage and the Fairbanks
North Star Borough as well as vehicles used to commute into these areas
for work or school.

The red Seasonal Waiver windshield sticker may be issued to
vehicle owners who certify in writing that the vehicle will not
be operated between November 1 and March 31.
The vehicle may only be driven April 1 through October 31 since
seasonally waived vehicles are not required to pass the I/M test. |

The gray Diesel Exempt Waiver certificate is issued to a vehicle
after its engine has been verified to be a diesel fueled engine.
There is not a cost to obtain this waiver.
Diesel waivers are issued once per vehicle owner and need not
be issued again until the diesel vehicle is sold within an I/M
area. |
