Problems/Comments
In 1994, three 3,000-gallon USTs and two 5,000-gallon USTs were removed. The tanks held AVGAS and Jet Fuel. Approximately 10 to 15 cy of contaminated soil was generated, which was placed into a lined landspread with 160 lbs. of fertilizer. None of the tanks were observed to be leaking and the tanks were subsequently transferred to the City of Tanana. The landspread was sampled a year later and all concentrations were below CULs. Groundwater was not investigated; however, the location information documented in the 1990s is limited and the exact location of the site is unknown. The site location marker on the CS map is approximate. It appears that the tanks were most likely located at the western end of the Tanana runway based on a) the township and section described in the 1990s documents, b) 1990s figures which show the BLM lease lots with the runway located north of the tank location, and c) a 1995 memo that references removing tanks 'at the end of the runway.'
