Problems/Comments

Soil contamination has occurred as a result of numerous spills and leaks over the past 8 years. Diesel and crankcase oils and hydraulic fluid surface stains observed near equipment repair area and housing facility day tanks. Extent of soil contamination estimated at less than 100 cubic yards. Note: Logging Contractor working onsite is Ben Thomas Logging Accepted into VCP May 2001. Last staff assigned Janes.

4/4/2002 Update or Other Action Received fax from Citifor with new proposal to use Enzymetech to perform bioremediation onsite. Ewing Contractors out of the picture. Mike Jaynes
4/4/2002 Update or Other Action Phoned Mike Hoyt of Chugach native to discuss latest Enzymetech proposal and my concerns. He was concerned about line. Would like to ensure covered cells were used between tilling soils, soil testing regime correct and a time limit for treatment, a deadline of August first. 4/8/2002 Meeting or Teleconference Held Phone call from Chuck Dobson at Citifor. Spoke with him about my concerns about Ben Thomas Log. Would like Tom Thomas to contact me directly and submit formal proposal. Tom Thomas to do no work directly. Mike Jaynes
4/24/2002 Meeting or Teleconference Held Spoke directly with Tom Thomas and Chuck Dobson. Stated that site needs to be finished this season according to Department standards. Thomas proposed biocell and I recommended that biocells may not work in Icy Bay area. Thomas proposed he would have a plan to me by May 1st for my review. Mike Jaynes

3/21/2003 Meeting or Teleconference Held Teleconference update with Chuck Dobson - Plans for Enzyme Tech out of Portland to do the work are on track for mid-May. Bill Janes
5/21/2003 Update or Other Action Voice mail from Chuck Dobson. Enzyme Tech has shipped supplies and will be working for 3 - 4 weeks starting in early June. Bill Janes
6/12/2003 Update or Other Action Per email from Chuck D. - the retreatment of the soil cell took place on 6/10 as scheduled. The water that accumulated in the sump during the winter/spring was pumped onto the soil during the treatment. Plan on tilling the soil for about 4 weeks before testing for results. Bill Janes
7/28/2003 Update or Other Action Confirmation sampling and evaluation for closure report received from DMC Tech. Enzyme Tech no longer on project. Saved on G drive site file. Bill Janes
8/5/2003 Update or Other Action Went over report with Dan McNair from DMC Tech. Email approval to CitiFor to dismantle treatment cell and backfill any open excavations. Approximately 1,500 cubic yards. Written closure or NFRAP determination to follow. Bill Janes
