We make every effort to ensure the data presented here is accurate based on the best available information currently on file with DEC. It is therefore subject to change as new information becomes available. We recommend contacting the assigned project staff prior to making decisions based on this information.
Problems/Comments
Reported potential contaminants onsite in unknown quantities include petroleum, oil, lubricant waste, PCBs, asbestos, solvents, herbicides, paints, antifreeze. Dates of disposal, presence or extent of contamination unknown. Update: site investigations indicate that fuel, primarily diesel-range organics are contaminants of concern. Isolated areas of benzene many exist across the FFA Flight Service Station.
Action Information
Action Date | Action | Description | DEC Staff |
---|---|---|---|
3/28/1991 | Site Added to Database | Restored to database after record was dropped by computer. | Former Staff |
2/23/1993 | Update or Other Action | (Old R:Base Action Code = RPL2 - Site Information Request Letter). Sent PRP-CS Database Notification Letter to RP requesting update and more environmental information concerning the contaminated site. RP responded with corrections on ADEC site report. | Jeff Peterson |
8/16/1996 | Site Ranked Using the AHRM | Ranked by Shannon and Wilson. Insufficient data to generate a AHRM score. NOTES: Communication with the BLM to obtain results of the confirmation analyses is required. Also, more accurate information needs to be obtained regarding the distance of the site from Tanana, as well as GW and SW Usage and Exposure. It should be noted that although avgas was reportedly released, analytical testing performed only for DRO. The analytical testing may not have been adequate for characterization of the release. | S&W |
1/25/2000 | Site Ranked Using the AHRM | Initial ranking. | Eileen Olson |
4/21/2000 | Site Ranked Using the AHRM | Re-ranked site using conservative assumptions. | Eileen Olson |
1/14/2002 | Update or Other Action | See FAA Tanana Station for updated database information. | Elizabeth Stergiou |
9/18/2002 | Update or Other Action | Sent letter requesting groundwater monitoring for all existing wells on site, with a schedule of monitoring to be submitted by March 31, 2003 and the monitoring to be complete by June 30, 2003. | Elizabeth Stergiou |
9/4/2003 | Update or Other Action | ADEC approved the workplan for the Fall 2003 Sampling and Analysis Plan for various sites. | Deborah Williams |
2/16/2005 | Site Ranked Using the AHRM | Site reranked. Release Information Value <1 indicated that there are no confirmed releases in spite of the fact that groundwatetr contamination has been documented. Changed value to 1. Site scored 42 and ranked as HIGH. | Sharon Richmond |
5/5/2008 | Exposure Tracking Model On Hold | See FAA Tanana Station for updated database information. File number 780.38.001. Contamination from multiple fuel storage tanks has commingled. | Sharon Richmond |
5/11/2011 | Update or Other Action | File transferred from Debenham to Dooley 05-11-11 | Rebecca Bryan |
5/12/2015 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | DEC developed a decision document regarding all FAA Tanana sites. This document requires a new effort to complete characterization of the petroleum contamination at the former FAA facilities at Tanana. | Monte Garroutte |
9/17/2015 | Update or Other Action | DEC completed a review of the environmental records associated with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Tanana Station sites in response to tank closure requests for 8 areas of concern (AOCs) at the FAA Tanana Station (letters dated April 8 and 11, 2008), and a multiple AOC closure request (letter dated January 21, 2014). Based on the information provided to date, DEC determined the site status of each area of concern (AOC). These determinations were recorded in a document titled “FAA Tanana Station – Summary of Evaluations and Determinations”, which was dated May 12, 2015, and was signed by the FAA on 9/17/2015. This document will be attached to the site project file. | Monte Garroutte |
9/12/2018 | Update or Other Action | Site transferred from PM Garroutte to PM O'Brien on December 5, 2016. | John O'Brien |
