Certification is required by Alaska State Regulation 18 AAC 90.300. You must be 18 years old to apply for certification to:
- use or supervise the use of an restricted-use pesticide;
- use or supervise the use of a general or restricted-use pesticide for commercial purposes (on property other than the applicators);
- satisfy the requirements of a pesticide permit;
- act as a pesticide consultant;
- purchase or sell restricted-use pesticides;
- use or supervise the use of a pesticide at a school.
Training is available through us, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) and the Alaska Cooperative Extension Service (ACE) , or by Correspondence.
Criteria for Certification Period: For correspondence certification your certification will expire after 1 year regardless of the exam score. For renewing your certification, the period is based on your exam scores as follows:
100-90% = valid for 3 years
89-80% = valid for 2 years
79-70% = valid for 1 year (70% minimum to pass)
Applicators must be certified in the appropriate category for the work they plan to do.
