Oceanview Texaco is located on the Old Seward Highway, south of the intersection of Huffman Road and Old Seward Highway, in Anchorage. A gas station is the current operating business on site. In August of 1993, three underground storage tanks (USTs) and 230 cubic yards of contaminated soil encountered during the excavation were removed. Some petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil was left in place.
In 2002, further release investigation was conducted on site to define the nature and extent of soil and or groundwater contamination. The release investigation revealed that measured petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations exceeding site cleanup levels in soil and groundwater near the former UST excavation. This facility continues to receive grant funds through the State of Alaska Financial Assistance Program to fund cleanup activities.
Public Health and Environmental Concerns
The contaminants of concern (COCs) are primarily petroleum; gasoline and gasoline components (BTEX). Petroleum contaminated soil remains on-site. Impacts to the groundwater have been identified.
Current Status
Groundwater monitoring continues.
