In 1994, during the removal of the old underground storage tanks and the installation of new tanks, gasoline and diesel contamination was found at the tanks and dispensers. While 150 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed and treated, some contaminated soil remains at depth below the tanks and dispensers.
Contamination extended to the groundwater table, which is at approximately 70 feet below ground surface. Groundwater and soil at the site were impacted with gasoline and diesel.
This site received financial grants from the DEC Financial Assistance Program for conducting assessment and remedial treatment. Trends of over the past year have shown reduction in contamination in the monitoring wells, but the contaminant levels still exceed applicable cleanup levels. Groundwater monitoring is ongoing.
After in investigation and cleanup, DEC approved conditional closure, now termed "cleanup complete - institutional controls," for this site in 2005. A record of the site cleanup chronology and institutional control details is available in the database. See link at top.
