Railroads

The Marine Vessels Section oversees contingency plans for railroads. A railroad transporting a railroad tank car carrying oil or petroleum products in bulk as cargo is required to have an oil discharge prevention and contingency plan. The contingency plan requirements and application procedures for a railroad are the same as those for tank vessels. Do I Need a Contingency Plan?

The Marine Vessels Section also conducts inspections and discharge exercises of railroads, just as it would for any regulated facility, to verify that the plan holders are in compliance with State regulations and can meet contingency plan commitments.
