Location Whittier Small Boat Harbor break water barrier, Whittier
Product/Quantity The ADEC response staff on scene estimated a release of less than one gallon of residual oil from the sunken barge. Approximately 30 gallons of diesel was retained in the cranes tank to operate the spuds (an anchoring system) for its transit to Valdez for safety reasons.
Cause Under investigation by the owner and the US Coast Guard (USCG)
Time/Date of Incident

Barge AK 7272 P sank while moored at Whittier Small Boat Harbor at approximately 8:00 AM on March 09, 2009. The incident was reported to ADEC at 8:15 A.M. by the Whittier Harbor staff.
