The Steps to Follow:

To change from a written to an online exam on our website, you must have an active certificate* and follow these steps:

  1. Apply with DEC for a written exam. Your application fee must be included.
  2. Wait to receive confirmation from DEC that you are approved for the written exam.
  3. Follow the directions on our "Applying for Online ABC Exams" page by clicking here.

*If you do not have an active certificate please fill out the Change to Online Exam form. This form, and the exam fee, must be in our office no later than 3/21/12.

Locations:

Online certification exams can be taken at university/college testing centers in the following communities:
  • Anchorage
  • Barrow
  • Bethel
  • Fairbanks
  • Juneau
  • Kenai
  • Ketchikan
  • Valdez

Fees:

Exam Fee: a $40 fee is required for all online exams.

Proctor Fee: Each testing center charges a fee to administer an exam. The testing center fee is paid to the testing center at the time of the exam. The testing center fees are as follows:

Anchorage $40 per exam
Barrow $30 per exam
Bethel $25 per exam
Fairbanks $50 per exam
Juneau $30 per exam
Kenai $50 per exam
Ketchikan $30 per exam
Valdez $20 per exam

Application Deadlines and Scheduling:

All change to online exam requests must be received no later than 3/21/12. If you are submitting a Change to Online Exam form it must be in our office by 3/21/12. Change requests received after 3/21/12 will not be accepted.

If your request to change to an online exam is received on or before 3/15/12, you will be notified and scheduled to take your online exam on 4/1/12. Once scheduled for an online exam, you have 60 days during which to take the exam.

If your request to change to an online exam is received from 3/16/12-3/21/12, you will be notified and scheduled to take your online exam on 4/15/12. Once scheduled for an online exam, you have 60 days during which to take the exam.
