Follow these steps to apply for the small water system certification exams:
- If you haven't already, click here to learn how to navigate the exam and TAKE THE SAMPLE TEST. (It is mandatory that you complete the sample test.)
- Check eligibility:
- Small Untreated Water System:
- High School diploma or GED; and
- Three (3) months of operating a small untreated (or higher) system OR completion of an approved training course.
- Small Treated Water System:
- High School diploma or GED; and
- Six (6) months of operating a small treated (or higher) system OR completion of an approved training course.
- Check to see if there is a proctored testing center near you:

- Dillingham at University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus
- Fairbanks at University of Alaska Fairbanks
- Glennallen at Prince William Sound Community College
- Kenai at Kenai Peninsula College
- Ketchikan at University of Alaska Southeast
- Palmer at Mat-Su College
- Complete the Small Untreated/Treated Water Systems Exam Application:
- Ensure that you include a phone number and email address.
- An email address is required since this is how we will send you verification of your eligibility to take the exam and exam information.
- Include $20 for the application fee.
