Approved Correspondence/Online Courses and Providers for Small Water System Operators

Type of Course Delivery:

Correspondence Course -

Distance course where learning materials are mailed to the student which the student completes and mails back for grading.

Computer Based Course

    - Distance course where the student uses a computer to:
    1. Log on to a website to obtain training, or
    2. Download software from a website which is then installed on the computer.

Note: Continuing education units (CEUs) for repeated courses are addressed in the Water and Wastewater Operator Certification and Training regulations 18 AAC 74.810 (PDF).

  • Core courses repeated within a three year period are not eligible for CEU credit.
  • Half credit will be recognized the second time a core course is repeated after three years.
  • Credit will not be given for courses repeated a third time or more.
  • All courses must be drinking water core.

Some courses may have different editions but are basically the same course and will be subject to 18 AAC 74.810. For example, the Office of Water Programs at California State University, Sacramento updates their correspondence courses periodically; however, there is no significant change to course content. As such, when an operator repeats a course with a newer edition, half credit will be awarded per 18 AAC 74.810.
