Community Engagement

Picking up after pets can help reduce pathogens and protect human health and the environment.

In Alaska, nonpoint source pollution is primarily addressed via application of best management practices. Although DEC is the lead agency for the state’s Nonpoint Source Program, many other agencies, entities, and individuals have a part in the implementation of activities to reduce nonpoint source pollution. Through communication, collaboration, and shared resources, Alaskans work together to effectively protect and restore water quality from the harmful effects of nonpoint source pollution. The links below highlight some of the activities taking place and provide some resources to learn more about actions that may help protect or restore water quality from nonpoint source pollution.
