Problems/Comments

Overflights of the area in the 1980's observed debris and drums in the area. In 1992, as part of the "Take Pride in America" program, Mobil cleaned up 1500 barrels and debris on site. Fourteen test pits were dug under the drums as well as a nearby petroleum seep that is thought to have resulted from refueling efforts during the cleanup of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. 28 soil samples, and 12 groundwater samples were taken at the time, indicating the presence of petroleum products, trace PCBs, and organocholorides. However, due to a lack of information regarding the lab methods utilized, ADEC cannot adequately compare the data to current cleanup levels.

6/6/2006 Update or Other Action Review of file shows information to be thin. Only report recieved on site indicates contamination from a fuel drum dump during past oil exploration activities in the 1950's and possibly from Exxon Valdez cleanup activities. Sampling was not for fuel but PAHs, Pesticides and PCBs. Pesticides and PCBs appear to be below cleanup levels; however, lab data is incomplete and questionable. PAHs were summed to be between about <100 ppm to 840 ppm with no details. Mike Jaynes
