Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other |
DEC received and reviewed the Final North Star Terminal #2 Groundwater Monitoring Report submitted by SLR. Eight wells were sampled for volatile organic compounds. PCE concentrations ranged from non detect to 58.6 ug/L in well MW-3. The presence of TCE and DCE in several of the wells suggests that reductive dechlorination is reducing PCE concentrations at the site. SLR recommends continued groundwater monitoring over a 5 year schedule. |

Update or Other Action |
DEC requested from the HolmTown and Miller Salvage porperty owners information regarding the pumping wells on their properties. No response has been received from HolmTown. Miller Salvage owner indicates that the cost of sampling is too high and they dont plan to sample at this time. Well is reportedly approximately 30 feet deep and is located on the parking area (northwest section of the lot). |

5/31/2016 |
Update or Other Action |
Approved Sampling & Analysis plan; an initial sampling effort will be conducted to sample eight existing deeper wells and two down-gradient water supply wells. A survey of the remaining monitoring wells associated with the site will also be conducted to ascertain their status and functionality. Using results and findings from these initial efforts, a work plan revision will be submitted to DEC for review, and will propose decommissioning of non-functioning wells; replacement of select wells, and the installation of new monitoring wells to determine the extent of groundwater contamination. Groundwater depth will be recorded and groundwater flow direction will be determined using EPA’s OnSite online calculator for hydraulic gradient. |

10/4/2016 |
Update or Other Action |
Received results of groundwater flow direction calculation from consultant; data indicate groundwater flow slightly east of north. Consultant assumes the high water from the Tanana River may have changed the gradient this year. The northern extent of the groundwater plume remains unresolved. The groundwater gradient information suggests that additional wells will need to be installed and/or existing wells replaced. A plan is being developed for additional delineation at the site.

Received 2020 Report describing results from pressure transducer deployment during 2018-19. According to the report, "...the groundwater flow direction is pre-dominantly northwest. There is very little seasonal variation, the total range is 2°, meaning flow direction is fairly consistent year-round. Groundwater gradient averaged 0.021239455, with a maximum gradient of 0.028842717 and a minimum gradient of
0.019535524." |
