Problems/Comments

This is the water supply house that was designated AOC02 in the PA/SI. It is the location of the installation's water pumping facility located on the shore of an unnamed lake. Water was taken directly from the lake and pumped to the composite building. One sample collected during the PA/SI had 57 PPM DRO. RRS operated from 1958 to 1977. All buildings and antennas demolished. Above ground POL storage tanks and POL pipeline still in place. Drum storage area and lighting vault are adjacent to airstrip. POL pipeline runs along sea coast and crosses Sheep Creek. Approximately 4,000 to 7,000 head of livestock graze on open range over much of Umnak Island. CERCLIS ID Number AK9572728644 In 1983, PCB contaminated soil was excavated and removed. Records indicate 36 drums of contaminated soil and 6 drums of transformer material. All above ground structures associated with this site were demolished in 1988. This included the composite building, transformer building and four White Alice Arrays. There are 8 IRP sites associated with the Nikolski RRS and an additional 4 AOC (Area of Concern) sites. RI/FS is scheduled for summer 2001, funding for additional work is programmed in 2005.
