Problems/Comments

Contaminated soil discovered during construction upgrade. Diesel fuel contaminated soil stockpiled on liner and excavation to be lined for replacing excavated soils back. Diesel tank used for heating and generator not a regulated UST. 2/17/2009 Cleanup Level(s) Approved Contaminated Sites staff reviewed and approved a request for an alternative cleanup level for DRO impacted soil at the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Station. About 300-cubic yards of soil were stockpiled in biocells originating from underground storage tank removals in the late 1990’s. Total organic carbon in the area is over 6%, with the average DRO concentration in the piles at around 800 mg/kg. The responsible party is coordinating with the Solid Waste Section to see about using the contaminated soil as landfill cover Jeff Brownlee
