Problems/Comments

Gasoline contamination was identified after the removal of a 500-gallon residential gasoline UST at the McNutt residence in November, 1992. Update 3-17-06 - Paul Horwath The tank excavation and soil stockpile was assessed by Northern Test Lab in 1992 and again in 1997. The site originally was within a 60 acre parcel of property. The property was sold and resubdivided into numerous lots of approximately 1 acre in size. The location of the former tank site was lost during the removal of the orignal McNutt house and garage, and the subsequent construction of residences. ADEC didn't receive the Northern Test Lab assessment reports until 2006. Upon receipt of those reports, it was determined that contaminant concentrations is soil met ADEC soil cleanup levels and that the site should no longer pose an unacceptable threat to human health. ADEC issued a site closure action/determination on 3/13/06. Updated 3-17-06 - Paul Horwath

Action Information

Action Date Action Description DEC Staff
10/29/1993 Site Added to Database GRO contamination. Former Staff
6/16/1995 Site Ranked Using the AHRM Initial ranking. Action code added because it wasn't when the site was originally ranked. Bill Petrik
3/26/2004 Update or Other Action File number assigned and entered into the File Room DB and CS DB. Alyce Hughey
9/15/2005 GIS Position Updated Using the address in the file, in conjunction with TopoZone Pro and the KPB Parcel Lookup, entered the coordinates for this site. Metadata includes No Topo Basemap, TopoZone Pro Street Maps, Black and White Aerial Photo, on a Medium Size Map, View Scale 1:10,000, Coordinate Datum NAD83. High degree of confidence in accuracy of location. Alyce Hughey
1/30/2006 Update or Other Action Talked with Mrs. McNutt about obtaining reports missing from the ADEC file. She called Mike Taurianen to release the reports to ADEC. Mike Tauriainen called and discussed the reports. He will make copies of both the 1993 and 1997 environmental assessment reports. Based on his summary of the contents of the reports, this site should be eligible for closure. Donald Seagren
2/6/2006 Update or Other Action Reviewed the February 1993 UST Site Assessment Report and the March 1997, Environmental Re-Sampling at Former UST Excavation report. These investigations were only for the former location of the 500-gallon gasoline UST. Minimal contamination, below Table B cleanup levels, was detected during the assessment. No further action is required. The excavation site is approved for closure. It should be noted that no assessment has been conducted at the location of the former home heating oil UST that was removed at the same time. Donald Seagren
3/17/2006 Site Closure Approved Both the February 1993 and March 1997 Northern Test Lab reports were reviewed. Based on the information in these two reports, soil in the vicinity of a former 500 gallon underground residential gasoline storage tank at this site met the applicable ADEC cleanup levels. This site is closed in the ADEC database. No Site Closure decision letter is being issued because the original land owner (Ray and Gloria McNutt) have sold the property and the original 60-acre parcel of property has since been subdivided into numerous ~ once acre lots. The lots in the vicinity of the former tank site have been sold and developed residentially. The location of this contaminated site is difficult to pinpoint in the currently developed subdivision because all original points of reference on the land have been removed (the original McNutt house and garage) and new homes have been constructed. The McNutt's no longer own the property. The former tank site can't be visually determined on the existing properties. Since soil contamination at this site was sampled and determined to have met the applicable ADEC soil cleanup levels, the site is no longer considered an unacceptable threat to human health, safety, or the environment, and closing the site out in this database will prevent any negative repurcussions to current or future land owners.
