Problems/Comments

Diesel contaminated soils due to an undetermined amount of heating oil released from a leaking storage tank. Soils excavated from this site has been undergoing remediation in a treatment cell within Bethel Fuel Sales' tank farm. Last staff assigned was Alam.

8/27/1999 Update or Other Action David Nyman called to inform that the contaminated soils have concentrations below 250 ppm. Shah Alam
10/21/1999 Site Closure Approved The Department approved site closure in a letter dated October 21, 1999 and addressed to David Nyman (Restoration Science and Engg). The analytical data presented in RSE's September 10, 1998 letter indicates that the contaminant concentrations in the soil do not exceed the cleanup levels established for this site. Based on this information and in accordance with 18 AAC 75 regulations, the Department requires no further remedial action at this site. The then property owner and the responsible party, Mr. Silva died years ago in Hawaii. RP's attorney in 1992, Douglas Dorland, is not involved with this case in 1999. Mr. and Mrs. Silta, who reported the original spill, did not live in Bethel in 1999 (In 1998, they lived in Kodiak.). Shah Alam
10/22/1999 Update or Other Action ADEC staff spoke with Mr. Oly Olson. He is the responsible party. The property has changed hands three times since the initial report of spill. Mr. Olson worked for the attorney representing the landowner to address the contaminated soils. Staff mailed a copy of the closure letter to Mr. Olson. Mr. Richard (Oly) Olson can be reached at P.O.
