Problems/Comments
Tanker truck rolled off highway. 10,000 gallons Jet A fuel released; some burned in ensuing fire. Soil at crash site and downhill from site along drainage ditch remained un-vegetated until 1995. In 1994 Shannon & Wilson completed a site assessment and in 1995 they hydroseeded the area. Mapco chose monitored natural attenuation for remediation. Last report to ADEC was in 1997, showing levels of DRO up to 11,000 mg/kg in the surface soils. Monitoring event scheduled for 2002 was not performed. Conditional closure granted as ADEC has determined that this site does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment at this time, subject to the institutional controls established for this site. Cross reference file 150.02.017.

| 2/23/1993 | Update or Other Action | (Old R:Base Action Code = RPL2 - Site Information Request Letter). Sent PRP-CS Database Notification letter to RP requesting update and more environmental information concerning contaminated sites. Mapco responded with claim they believe reponsibility for clean up falls upon PTI as operator of tanker truck. | Jeff Peterson |
| 12/9/1994 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Site Assement received: MAPCO contracted with Shannon & Wilson to perform SA. SA identified non-vegetated area in location downhill of spill in the highway drainage. Analytical sampling shows DRO in the nonvegetated area up to 18,000 mg/kg on the surface and up to 8,600 mg/kg 1.5 feet below ground surface. Added to db in 2006 to reflect administrative file. | Shannon Oelkers |
| 1/27/1995 | Long Term Monitoring Established | MAPCO and ADEC meet and determine corrective action plan. Hydroseeding and long term monitoring for summer 1995 through 1996 agreed on. Added to db in 2006 to reflect administrative file. | Shannon Oelkers |
| 9/8/1997 | Update or Other Action | Soil sampled in July 1997 showed DRO levels up to 11,000 mg/kg at the surface and at 1.5 feet bgs. Highest concentrations were at lowest point of drainage ditch. Next sampling event scheduled for 2002. Added to db in 2006 to reflect administrative file. | Shannon Oelkers |
| 3/2/2001 | Update or Other Action | File number updated from 150.02.017 to 150.38.025. | Mitzi Read |
| 11/28/2006 | Conditional Closure Approved | ADEC has determined that soil contamination remains at the site above the most stringent 18 AAC 75.341 soil cleanup levels but the nature and extent of the contamination does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. It was noted that in 1997 the area was re-vegetated from the hydro-seeding event. | Shannon Oelkers |
| 11/28/2006 | Institutional Control Record Established | 1.A Notice of Environmental Contamination will be recorded in the ADEC Database identifying the residual contamination remaining on site. The notice shall include the requirement of ADEC review and approval of any proposed excavation in the former spill location. 2.In accordance with 18 AAC 75.370(b), ADEC approval must be obtained prior to removal and/or disposal of soil or groundwater from this site to an off-site location. | Shannon Oelkers |
| 12/4/2006 | Record of Decision | Unable to locate responsible party. Closure stands as a record of decision. | Shannon Oelkers |
| 9/17/2007 | Update or Other Action | Updated staff assigned to Bill O'Connell. | Hannah Lager |
