Problems/Comments
Contaminated soil containing old, weathered crude was discovered during the replacement of fire-water valve L-11. Soil was excavated to the maximum extent practical (16 feet BGS), but structural integrity concerns prevented further excavation. 100 cubic yards of PCS were removed. No record of original spill exists. ADEC OKed backfilling the excavation on 9/1/1993 due to safety concerns. Cross reference with file number 1200.02.001. No samples were taken so residual range organics (RRO) was given as a COC.

9/21/2016 | Update or Other Action | On this date, a below ground piping inspection was conducted around the L11 valve pipe support. After the project excavated 10 cubic yards a light grey sheen was noted 4 to 5 feet bgs from a pipe support. Field screen Samples were collected from the area where sheen was observed near the pipe support and from a nearby area where a few darker spots of soil were observed near a concrete foundation. Screening values from the concrete foundation area were 41 ppm (PetroFlag) and 0 ppm (PID). Results near the pipe support were 101 ppm and 66 ppm (PetroFlag) and both PID results were 0 ppm. The project continued and grey sheen was periodically encountered. A total of 115 cubic yards of assumed contaminated soil was excavated during the project and transported to the VMT ETF longterm soil storage area. Alyeska approximated the soil contained a gallon of product. The contamination source is unknown but could be related to the historic old weathered crude discovered at this site 16 feet bgs in 1994. | Grant Lidren |
8/20/2019 | Site Visit | ADEC visited the site with Alyeska, ADNR, and SLR on this date. | Grant Lidren |
