Problems/Comments

A 3-part, 13,000 cubic yard active soil treatment cell was constructed using petroleum contaminated soil from 7 contaminated sites in the Craig/ Klawock area on Prince of Wales Island. Active cell management was monitored with soil sampling on 9/14/94, 6/27/95, and on 9/17/98. Nutrients were added initially; testing in 1995 showed no decrease in available nutrients. Data comparison showed reduction in Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon in treatment cell soil through the period of active treatment. Site inspection in 2002 and 2004 by DEC showed the treatment cell was in good condition but the blower pump equipment did not appear to have been operated for at least several years.
