Problems/Comments

Site has historic spills and is still a fuel storage facility. Two spills in 1994 and a spill in 1995 contaminated the soil and possibly the river. Site remains uncharacterized. Current capacity is 12,505 gallons bulk diesel storage. The tanks are located adjacent to the Innoko River. It is unknown what the current status of containment is at this site. Product entered river. Used 470 funds to: purchase used boom to control; fix truck to haul contaminated soil; and, purchase liner. Spill Nos: 94-251-168-1, 94-251-125-1, and 95-251-111-1

5/4/1994 Update or Other Action Updating database to reflect administrative file: May 1994 a slow leak from the valve on a bulk fuel oil storage tank released an estimated 860 gallons to the ground. Tank belonged to the City of Shageluk, while the oil was owned by Zho-Tse Corp. Some documents in the file refer to possible leakage from six tanks, indicating that this leak may have been from the Zho-Tse Corp. tank farm, located by the school, rather than the city bulk storage facility. 6/17/1994 Update or Other Action Updating database to reflect administrative file: June 1994 Yutana barge delivered 10,000 gallons to the two tanks comprising the Shageluk tank farm (one 5,000 gallon tank and one 9 ,000 gallon tank). During delivery one of the tanks settled and sheared a valve or fuel line, spilling 8,000 gallons onto the river bank and tundra. The tank farm tanks were supported by pallets within an unlined containment berm adjacent to the Innoko River. Shannon Oelkers

Zho-Tse Corp. agrees to complete cleanup, initate bioremediation for soils impacted by spill, and instigate an operation plan for the tank farm that includes scheduled inspection and maintenance of the tank farm and all containment areas.
