Problems/Comments
In 1991, the Channel Marina Inc business owner registered a buried tank used to store gasoline with the DEC Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program. The owner reported that the five year old galvanized UST was last used in August 1983 and that the UST currently contained no fuel. On a change-of-ownership form sent to DEC in October 1999, the business owner stated that the UST had been closed by a business certified by the State following a fire in 1996 that destroyed the main business structure on the property. DEC has requested that the owner(s) either produce a copy of the UST Site Assessment (SA)Report by the qualified business or else conduct another certified-tank-worker UST SA required by 18 AAC 78.090. The DEC requests have been sent regular mail certified and have gone unanswered.

5/27/2011 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | DEC has completed a review of the environmental records associated with the UST Facility #173 Channel Marina Inc that was located at 2591 Channel Drive in Juneau before being destroyed by fire in 1996. Based on the information provided to date on the 1,000gallon gasoline UST, the DEC has determined that there are no contaminant concentrations remaining on site that pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. All pathways at this site by which contamination may reach human or ecological receptors are either De Minimis Exposure or Pathway Incomplete and no further action under Chapter 18 is warranted. This determination is in accordance with 18 AAC 78.276(f) and does not preclude DEC from requiring additional assessment and/or cleanup action if future information indicates that this site may pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. | Bruce Wanstall |
