7/30/2008 | Leaking Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Initiated - Petroleum | Approximately 5,000-gallons of Bunker C heating oil were removed from the tank prior to the excavation. A flame ionization detector was used to guide the removal of contaminated soil resulting in the excavation and thermal treatment of approximately 18 cubic yards of contaminated soil. Confirmation samples collected from the bottom and sides of the excavation did not contain contaminants above 18 AAC 75 Method Two, migration to groundwater cleanup levels. After sampling, clean soils removed during the excavation were used as backfill in the excavation. Groundwater was not encountered. | Bill O'Connell |
