Problems/Comments
Soil and Groundwater contamination were encountered during the removal of one 2,500-gallon diesel UST and two 4,000-gallon UST's, piping and dispenser. Approximately 87 cubic yards of contaminated soil was stockpiled in a long-term storage cell at the rear of the property. Benzene and DRO contamination remains at the former dispenser island, piping line, and former underground storage tank location.

8/28/2008 | Update or Other Action | Reviewed the file, and prepared a summary of the file, and provided George Rieth, the executor of the Estate, the current site conditions, to inform him what additional assessment or cleanup actions would be required in order to potentially reach an ADEC closure decision. | Alyce Hughey |
10/23/2009 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Approved the September 23, Last Chance Gas - 1999 UST Removal & Closure Assessment Update, from Coble Geophysical Services. | Paul Horwath |
11/4/2009 | Cleanup Plan Approved | Conditionally approved the November 3, 2009 Site Investigation, Workplan and Remediation Outline Last Chance Gas - 1999 UST Removal 7 Closure Assessment Update, from Coble Geophysical Services. Modification (1) to the workplan, no further laboratory soil sampling is required on the soils in the existing soil stockpile, and Condition (2) to the workplan, upon removal of the existing soil stockpile, field screening beneath and surrounding the location of the historical stockpile is required in the effort to assess the freshly exposed soils for potential residual petroleum contamination. If the field screening effort produces evidence of residual hydrocarbon contamination, then laboratory soil sample collection and analyses at an ADEC approved laboratory will be necessay. If the field screening effort produces results similar to those obtained during the soil stockpile sampling effort (no or very low instrument response), then no sub-stockpile soil sample collection and laboratory analyses will be necessary. | Paul Horwath |
8/23/2010 | Final Cleanup Report Reviewed | Reviewed the 8-23-10 submittal of the Final Site Remediation Report, Last Chance Gas - 1999 UST Removal & Closure Assessment Update, for Last Chance Gas, from Geophysical Consulting for Paul Horwath. The groundwater analytical results following Bioremediation was non-detect. The residual DRO soil contamintion remaining in the surface and sub-surface soil is well below the ADEC ingestion, direct contact and inhalation levels. The residual DRO soil contamination remaining in the surface and sub-surface soil is above the ADEC migration to groundwater. | Alyce Hughey |
8/23/2010 | Conceptual Site Model Submitted | Final ETM Ranking performed. | Paul Horwath |
8/27/2010 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | Issued an ADEC Decision Document, Corrective Action Complete Determination. The cleanup actions to date have served to reduce residual soil and groundwater contaminant concentrations to acceptable levels. DRO soil contamination does remain at the site, however, ADEC has determined there is no unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Therefore this site will be issued a Corrective Action Complete determination. The residual DRO soil contamintion remaining in the surface and sub-surface soil is well below the ADEC ingestion, direct contact and inhalation levels. The residual DRO soil contamination remaining in the surface and sub-surface soil is above the ADEC migration to groundwater. The groundwater analytical results following Bioremediation was non-detect for the analytes tested for. | Paul Horwath |
