Problems/Comments

At Site 3 Building L a 3,000 gallon heating oil tank was removed in 1994 with approximately 42 cubic yards of contaminated soil. Soil at groundwater interface contaminated with 1,251 ppm DRO. The groundwater in this area of Fairbanks is between 7 and 9.5 feet below ground surface (bgs). The limits of excavation on all the tanks ranged from 9 to 10 feet. Apartments are currently on city water system and heated by natural gas. All excavated soils were thermally treated at OIT Services. Further assessment of the groundwater was recomended. At Site 3 Building M, a 1,000 gallon heating oil tank was removed in 1994 with no contamination found. Design Alaska is responsible for design of buildings and is local representative for AHFC. New water and sewer system going in at this time also. Jack Felton/AHFC is contact in Anchorage at 786-6203.
